Menswear: Moon's Surface Tie by WildTies

As the Apollo 11 landing crew looked down upon the approaching landscape, 38 years ago today, I bet they never dreamed they’d see that view on these ties! A lunar alternative for next Father’s Day, perhaps?

Handmade with 100% silk, this tie features a detailed portrait of the moon’s surface across a black background. An excellent necktie for any space enthusiast!

Happy moonlandings!

Space Couture Design Contest

Thursday, July 6th, 2006

This contest first made a splash last month — as seen on SPACE.com — as Rocketplane, one of many spaceflight companies developing their own launch vehicles, realized that space tourists may not want to go the traditional route, when it comes to attire:

“Rocketplane made the fundamental design decision to fly in a true ‘shirtsleeve environment’ very early in the development program,â€? explained Chuck Lauer, Vice President of Business Development for Rocketplane, based in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

“In our view, not having to wear bulky pressure suits, helmets or breathing masks will enhance the customer’s space flight experience, Lauer told SPACE.com.

Astronomy Leather Wallets

Hlaska Astronomy Leather Wallet

(Originally seen here.) Featuring punched leather and three colors, Hlaska describes this wallet as:

“A piece of the night sky in your pocket. The Big Dipper on the front. The Summer Cross on the back. Things are looking up.”

EditJuly 6, 2006 — I was fortunate enough to come into just enough spending money to pick up a wallet (in the above-shown midnight blue), and having received it yesterday afternoon, I have to say, it is definitely a work of quality. The color is to die for, the punched leather has a different-colored lining behind it, to set off the “stars”, the leather is quite fine, and the interior of the wallet is nice and roomy. I think I’m in love.
